World Thrombosis Day Meeting of Professionals

On November 5, the organization will hold a meeting for professionals. The program will end by 5:00 p.m. At 6:00 p.m., dinner will begin in the presence of the minister of health and the media with some patients invited. The aim is to encourage the minister of health to insist on performing risk assessments and prophylaxis for patients admitted to the general hospitals. Additionally, there will be campaign announcements on the radio with information about VTE in October. Many posters will be distributed to hospitals around Cairo. A booklet containing all of the information needed for patients who are taking an anticoagulant will also be distributed for patients and the public.

The following will be covered: Venous Thromboembolism (VTE) and Maternal Mortality Congenital Cardiopathy and VTE Acquired Cardiopathy and VTE LUPUS and VTE in pregnancy Cancer and VTE in pregnancy Sickle cell disease and VTE Diagnosis and treatment of VTE in pregnancy Preliminary results of the aplication of a Protocol for the prevention of VTE in all Women hospitalized in the Obstetric Clinics

The UC HLVI is committed to building awareness of Thrombosis risk in our community, and we believe that by promoting WTD, we can achieve this goal. Additionally, we hope to draw attention to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center's excellence of care for thrombosis patients by highlighting our strict Venous thromboembolism prophylaxis protocols in a Grand Rounds seminar, by releasing a videotaped patient testamonial, and by engaging the public with a social media campaign for WTD and press releases to local media. The organization's 3-pronged plan to to promote WTD this year: 1. Present a UC HLVI Grand Rounds, in recognition of World Thrombosis Day, at noon on Tues., October 13, featuring a panel of experts who will discuss Thrombosis and it’s connection to Heart Attack, Stroke and Cancer. - Richard C. Becker, M.D., Director and Physician-in-Chief, UC HLVI; Director, Division of Cardiovascular Health and Disease, Mabel Stonehill Endowed Professor of Medicine, University of Cincinnati College of Medicine (UC COM) - William Barrett, M.D., Director, UC Cancer Institute; Chairman and Professor, Department of Radiation Oncology, UC COM - Dawn O. Kleindorfer, M.D., Professor of Neurology; Director, Division of Cerebrovascular Disease; Co-Director, Comprehensive Stroke Center, UC COM 2. Attract media attention with a patient-oriented press release to promote awareness of Thrombosis risk, including a link to our most recent Scholarvison video, featuring Cincinnati native Judy Kleinmann, a thrombosis patient who describes her experience with the condition. On 15 Sep. MAHTA launches the world thrombosis day website in Persian. MAHTA has a booth in the first international congress of Haematology/Ongcology in Tehran in Sep. 16-18, http://iphos2015.com/enindex.php. On Friday 2 Oct, Iranian weekend, at the popular hiking area in mountains close to Tehran disseminating flyers and information about VTE. On 9 Oct, MAHTA will have a booth in the Sharif University Graduation Ceremony and will promote the WTD. October 10, scientific seminar in General Hospital, Tehran. "Think VTE" large signs will be displayed in Tehran and large cities of Iran for a week. October 13, TV coverage of the WTD by Dr. Faranoush, MAHTA's haematologist on a health program.

Serbian Society of Haemostasis and Thrombosis will organize educational meeting devoted to: - thrombophilia as this topic is of great interest for our community based on the fact that Serbia still doesn’t have national guidelines. - regarding thrombophilia testing and treating. Exchange of knowledge and experience in this field is very important with regard to cost/benefit aspect of thrombophilia testing, based on limited financial resources in our society. Also, during this meeting the initiative for the establishment of biobanks of patients with thrombophilia in Serbia will be presented. This initiative is very important because it greatly contributes to the elucidation of the mechanism of occurrence of thrombophilia, paving the way for more effective diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of patients suffering from this disease.

This year the hospital will have a WTD display with education materials for patients and their families. Balloons will be printed and will be handed to children to entice their families over to the WTD stand. They will also display their improvements on guidelines at the hospital. Healthcare staff will also be encouraged to take part in the WTD educational event.
